Return to God

For many months I have been expressing deep concern for the spiritual condition of both the church and our nation. I believe with all my heart we are headed in the wrong direction. The only hope for a return to sanity, stability and security is for the church to awaken and truly pierce the darkness with God’s love and God’s truth. There is no other way to see the tide turned.

The appreciation and support for my message is very encouraging and the vast majority of friends and supporters of the outreaches of LIFE understand my deep concern and appreciate the truths I am sharing in these weekly commentaries. A few, however, have expressed what they call “great disappointment” and have misunderstood what I am saying and actually accuse me of forsaking God and His Word for political causes.

I have made it absolutely clear that I am not talking about the organization of a political power base, but rather the release of God’s power that affects every other base of power including the political. I am not talking about embracing or condemning some political party. We are talking about exposing worldviews and belief systems that are damaging and diametrically opposed to biblical truth and the principles our nation’s founders understood so well.

I believe elected representatives from all parties have misled the population and too many people have begun to depend upon the systems of men and an ever-increasing, all-consuming federal government that will weaken our ability to not only be blessed, but to be a blessing to others in need.

We have become a present-day demonstration of Israel’s journey in the Old Testament. From the time God delivered them from Egyptian bondage and moved them into the land of prosperity and blessing, they were determined to forsake God and return to Egypt. The prophet Jeremiah asked the people why they had forsaken God – “the fountain of living waters” – and made for themselves “broken cisterns that can hold no water.” He asked them what they were doing “on the road on to Egypt.” I am asking America why we have forsaken freedom’s blessings and a clear understanding of the importance of limited government and now are on our way to replacing it with a controlling power that makes imperialism and the monarchy our founders revolted against pale in comparison.

Jeremiah rebuked the prophets because they had superficially healed the people, “crying peace when there was no peace!” In the twelfth chapter, God said through Jeremiah that He had given His own inheritance into the hands of the enemy because of their disregard for His truth. He said, “The land is being devoured by the beasts of the field,” which is a clear picture of demonic assault on the potential fruitfulness of God’s people.

In the same passage, He said shepherds had ruined His vineyard, causing it to be desolate because the shepherds did not take it to heart. As a result, there was no real peace for anyone and although they had “sown wheat, and reaped thorns,” and God told them they should “be ashamed of their harvest.” Our nation needs to repent in so many different ways and repentance needs to begin with the people of God.

Betty and I have spent the greater part of our life assisting the poor and the needy, not only spiritually, but physically all over the world. We have found it extremely difficult to motivate people to assist the poor here in the United States because people have been convinced that social programs, supposedly funded by taxes on the “rich,” adequately provide for those in need.

Now we are in the process of creating animosity and hostility toward those who help create wealth and produce income. Programs are being put in place to take even more from them – the very people who provide many jobs, opportunities and consumerism. We are hearing continually the need to increase taxes and they will be passed on to everyone and the poor and the less fortunate will always suffer the most. This breaks my heart, but this is the direction we are going and I cannot remain silent because too many precious people are going to be hurt. This is one shepherd that refuses to sit back and hide the light and just be content with whatever comfort I may have. I care too much about those of you reading this commentary and the people who are suffering. I am deeply concerned about the catastrophic consequences that are being set in motion.

If you will simply study history, you will find that every time taxes have been decreased. Calvin Coolidge lowered taxes in the 1920’s and immediately America came out of a depression. JFK did the same thing in the early 1960’s and we got a boost. Ronald Reagan took taxes from 70% to below 30% and it helped create an economic boom that lasted through the tech explosion in the Clinton administration and beyond.

We are approaching our present-day problems the wrong way. The government cannot produce the necessary jobs. The free market must do that and they are presently encumbered. It breaks my heart Americans are violating the principles that enabled us to be great and secure.

I am doing my best to fulfill Isaiah 58 which God burned into my heart when I was so sick with staph infection I was too weak to resist. God said I was to put a trumpet to my lips and warn the people, calling the church and the nation to repentance. Calling the family of God, the family of faith, and people who love their families and love freedom to come together and restore the foundation and rebuild the walls.

I have been studying to share truths about our founding and the principles we must return to and that we must demand all parties, all politicians, all leaders, and all representatives to support. The prophet Hosea said that God’s people are “destroyed for lack of knowledge.” Much of our population lacks the knowledge of the truth – not only God’s truth, but the truth about the founding fathers and the principles upon which the nation was established. President John Adams said, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any others.” Americans must now return to morality, honor, character, compassion, and take personal responsibility for their lives and families.

The worldview of many educators and the controlling forces in media and yes many who manipulate the money markets have a worldview that has not only left God out, but proves itself to be diametrically opposed to His truth. Hosea said that the people “speakwith mere words,  make covenants with worthless oaths, and therefore judgment sprouts like poisonous weeds in the field.” He called the people to repentance and said, “Sow with a view to righteousness, reap in accordance with kindness and break up your fallow ground. It is time to seek the Lord until He comes to rain righteousness on you.” He said you have “plowed wickedness, you have reaped injustice, and you have eaten the fruit of lies because you trusted your way and in your numerous warriors.”

The restoration we are looking for in America will not come because of might or power on the part of man, but the power of God working in yielded people who will return to truth with their whole heart. We will fulfill the great commandments to “love God with all our heart…and love our neighbors as ourselves.” Far too many people have dismissed their responsibility of loving their neighbor and said it’s up to the government to take care of everybody and let’s get what wealthy people have and redistribute it. They have no view for righteousness because this is an unrighteous act that actually weakens the entire economy and the potential for recovery. We truly have blind leaders of the blind and we are in a ditch not only of debt but of despair, and I’m declaring, I know the hope and the hope is a return to God!

Hosea closed his book by saying to “take your words with you and return to God. Assyria (the world) will not save us. We will not ride on horses (the flesh). For in Thee the orphan finds mercy.” All of us must come to understand who our true Father is and we don’t have to live like orphans. We are adopted sons of the Almighty God!

Hosea continues saying, “Those who live in God’s shadow will again raise grain, and whoever is wise let him understand these things, and whoever is discerning let him know them for the ways of the Lord are right and the righteous will walk in them.”

I am calling for a return to the righteousness of God on the part of the church and the part of the nation. It breaks my heart that anyone would misunderstand me. I pray you not only understand what God has put in my heart, but will seek His will with all your heart and you will become a light piercing the darkness and illuminating the way to restore freedom’s foundation and return this nation to a sound biblical worldview our founders clearly understood.

  1. I allowed others to feed me through preaching without referring back to God’s word. Then I remembered people in the end times being led by doctrines of devils and seducing spirits.I said to myself that I could end up this way.I started every night reading reading reading God’s word to open my eyes and ears to the Holy Spirit to break down that searing of my conscience.I was to weak spiritually to even walk in the light that God had waiting for me.I am the product of my father who was a preacher, and my mother who studying everything the occult had to offer.I saw first hand the powers directly opposed to God’s word.I am now like a baby learning to walk in the light.Pray for me Brother James.

  2. Almighty GOD; we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection, that thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States of America at large. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of The Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech thee, through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen

  3. I find it interesting to see all the comments about how the government should not help people. Are the churches going to help 7 million unemployed? I know some of these people are just lazy but NOT all are. Look at the rate of housing foreclosures if you don’t believe the unemployment figures, which by the way, are worse than 10 percent. This is just the people collecting unemployment at present and those who are eligible to get it. How is the church deciding how much to give any different than the government doing it? I am very sad to say this, but people will get LESS from the churches than they get from the government.

It’s time to cut to the real issue and expose the controllers of this evil world system, instead of worrying who gives and who doesn’t. When things were good, at least in this country, chronic unemployment was not a problem. Yes, there was always welfare and unemployment but not at this level! People did not suddenly wake up and decide they didn’t want to work and earn a living! We are far beyond giving out a few cans of Spaghettios once a week to a handful families in need. That system doesn’t address the seriousness of the issues at hand TODAY. Time to get a clue on this issue as well.

By the way, no matter who does the “giving” in this country, it’s still all about control. How can we fix the real problem and not put a band-aid on Niagara Falls? That takes looking at some very serious and complicated issues and stepping out of our comfort zones. So far, no one seems willing to do that.

But thank you James and Betty for trying….I won’t give up, either.

  4. And these arrogant people will use the currency for themselves. Boy, we are near the end.

Come Lord Jesus and take us away from this evil!

  5. Thank You James for giving our nation and the church important warnings in your columns.
The only ground which a nation’s faith rest on, is the fact that God sends a prophet to warn them!
While Christians are silent our government leaders continue to turn away from our Christian heritage.
and our courts strip us of all our rights. Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing.
While a handful of people and their lawyers are telling us to cease praying.
The silent majority has been silent too long.
It’s time we let that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard. It is time the majority rules! It’s time we tell them, you don’t have to pray; you don’t have to say the pledge of allegiance; you don’t have to believe in God or attend services that honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your right.
But, you are no longer going to take our rights away. We are fighting back … and we WILL WIN!
If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:28-31
God bless us one and all .. especially those who denounce Him.
God bless America, despite all her faults. She is still the greatest nation of all.
God bless our service men who are fighting to protect our right to pray and worship God.

  6. Obama’s appearance at Notre Dame would appear to be complicated significantly by new polls that show Americans’ attitudes on the explosive issue have shifted dramatically toward the anti-abortion position.

A Gallup survey released Friday found that 51 percent of Americans call themselves “pro-life” on the issue of abortion and 42 percent “pro-choice.” This is the first time a majority of U.S. adults have identified themselves as “pro-life” since Gallup began asking this question in 1995.

It’s a dramatic shift from just a year ago when Gallup found that 50 percent of those polled termed themselves “pro-choice” while 44 percent described their beliefs as “pro-life.”

  7. You are talking about repentance. On a personal level,(first), and as a country. I understand you as I do Isaiah, Jeremiah and John The Baptist. The worst that could happen is a huge revival. The best that could happen is revival AND the Father would, “heal our land”. I like win-win situations! Especially when it Glorifies Jesus and people are saved. My prayer is that all erring churches would repent and come to the knowledge of the truth and all would stand together as one in Christ, strengthened and led by the Holy Spirit. There are very trying times ahead, worse than now. There is no other way to bear the testing and turmoil that is comming. No other way to turn things around than to turn to Jesus!!
Gaining knowledge so as not to be decieved, praying, and doing what we can as citizens to turn the tide. Like voting, writting to our representives, praying, volunteering, sending emails, praying, donating money, praying.
Oh! Did I mention PRAYING!!…..After all what is faith without works! It’s time to roll up our sleeves and put on our knee pads!..(and the full armor of God)
God Bless You James and Betty!! Tracy

  8. Thank you James and Betty for remaining strong. You have my greatest admiration and respect. Letting the government help the poor and the needy takes away a blessing that God gives us for following his word and taking care of those around us. I have never helped someone without being blessed myself. We miss these blessings which always make us stronger when we let the government handle what was meant for the church to do.

  9. One thing I like about you is you are upfront about what you do. You run a ministry to help people in impoverished countries. You never tell people they will go to hell for not giving 10 percent of their income. Why then, do we have preachers of these big churches preaching that the only way to be blessed by God is to give money and quote verses as to why its so. is the churches role to save people or condemn them to hell. They need to go and read the parts about not taking advantage of the poor and we have a lot of people in this country who can’t afford to eat.
It sounds an awful lot like the government when a church leader starts stamping his foot and demanding money from those who can not afford it. Imagine the impact this has for a new believer. They are out of work, or already feeling condemned and now are trying to seek God. Now they hear they can’t afford God’s love and he does not want them unless they give money. Then you get a bunch of people thanking the speaker for the slap in the face. So thank you for not doing that James. We wonder why we are at this point in time? To the other churches: Charity….are you serious? Not even the government looks up your tithe and decide whether to help you. I have heard that from several people I know.
This is why socialism is taking a foothold. If you want to see a bunch of brainwashed folks, look in the pews as well as those glorifying the government leaders. None of them seem to have clue what is going on.

  11. ‘My’ bank manager, young, just became a father of a 4 month/almost -1 lb. baby boy. He is not yet ‘formed’ yet He is alive and healthy! This man, hurt by too many Christians to commit to Jesus; is SO awed holding that precious baby to his chest: “skin to skin”…. is SO commited to that baby..I am SO awed..I’ll save the story of Jesus and Me in the womb, must have been about same age; I’ll relate it to him while he is still in AWE…but begs the question……Pay taxes to kill babies??? even to full maturity, when a 4 month is healthy! continuing to grow outside the womb. Time to refuse and go to jail? I do not believe Jesus would say “Render unto Caesar…to kill my babies…” Please speak to this. Thank you

  12. How do we know when we are supposed to go along with things or not? I feel like God showed me this verse and I’m looking for confirmation as to why…I’m just getting very confused about everything that is going on and now I’m even questioning if maybe the enemy showed me this!

    It’s one of those days…

    Jeremiah 28:1-17
For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; I have put a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him: and I have given him the beasts of the field also.
15Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah; The LORD hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.
16Therefore thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will cast thee from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast taught rebellion against the LORD.
17So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

  13. I just wanted to thank James (and Betty) for taking a stand. I believe James Robison is one of the wisest men of our time. He is spot on about the conditions of our nation and of the church. I believe when the church (us) decides to take a long hard look in the mirror, we will see a distorted view of Jesus, the One whom we serve. I believe it is easy to ‘divide and conquer’ when people don’t understand WHO they really are. We are His children and have been called to act on that truth. I for one am guilty of watching instead of fighting. There is a battle and the victory comes only when the armies of God show up. I recently watched the series from James and Robert Morris called “Breaking Free”(from the cycle of defeat). It is the deepest revelation for the church that I have ever seen, truly touched by the hand of God. I reccomend it for all believers to empower us to fight against darkness. One of my favorite quotes “When a government puts it’s privleges ahead of it’s principles, it soon loses both.” I believe this applies to the church as well.
I thank God for James and his sincere love for God and humanity.
